Land Clearing
Land Clearing in Hampton Roads, VA
Turn overgrown or wooded ground into property you can build on, fence, farm or simply use again.
Free written estimates. Licensed & insured. Serving Hampton Roads and beyond.

Land Clearing is more than knocking down what you can see. Brush, vines, saplings, stumps, fallen timber and uneven debris all decide how a piece of ground can be used and what can happen on it next.
Every job starts with a walk of the property and a clear conversation about the result you want. From there we clear in a planned order, working around the trees you want to keep, your structures and your property lines, and leaving the ground ready for its next step.
When to Call for Land Clearing
You Can't Get Into Part of Your Property
Dense growth makes sections of land hard to reach, inspect or maintain. Clearing opens them back up so you can see what you have and put it to use.
You're Planning to Build
Houses, garages, driveways and pole barns all need open, visible ground first. Clearing lets you, your builder and your surveyor see the site before plans are finalized.
Storm Damage Is Left Behind
Downed trees and scattered limbs block driveways, fence lines and work areas. Getting them cleared restores access and keeps the mess from turning into a long-term problem.
Growth Keeps Creeping In
Brush and saplings that spread past where you want them shrink your usable space every season. Clearing resets the line before it gets harder and more expensive.
What Affects the Cost of Land Clearing
- Lot size: more acreage means more machine time, though large jobs often cost less per acre.
- How thick the growth is: light brush clears fast; dense woods with large trees take much longer.
- Tree size: big hardwoods and tall pines need more cutting, heavier equipment and more hauling.
- Access: open road frontage is easy; tight gates, soft ground or steep slopes slow the work.
- Debris: hauling everything away costs more than mulching it on site.
- Stumps: leaving, grinding or pulling them out each changes the price.
- The finished result: rough clearing for pasture differs from a lot graded and ready for a foundation.
For the most accurate quote, tell us what the land will be used for, share the address and photos, and mention any builder deadlines.
Check Before You Clear
Many clearing projects need local approval before any soil is disturbed, and rules are stricter near the Chesapeake Bay and its waterways, which covers most of Hampton Roads.
Virginia generally requires an erosion and sediment control plan for land disturbance of 10,000 square feet or more, and typically 2,500 square feet in Chesapeake Bay Preservation Areas. Land within 100 feet of tidal shores, tidal wetlands and many streams (Resource Protection Areas) has strict limits on removing vegetation. Wetlands can require state and federal permits, and some HOAs must approve clearing.
Clearing without approval can bring fines, stop-work orders and costly restoration. Call your city or county's permits office before work starts; we're happy to walk the site with you first.
Rules vary by locality. Always confirm requirements with your city or county.
Selective Clearing
Keep the trees worth saving. We can clear around the trees you want, then fence off their root zones (about 1 foot of radius for every inch of trunk diameter) so equipment doesn't compact or cut their roots.
Trees that won't survive construction are safer and cheaper to remove before building starts.

How the Work Goes
Walk the Property
We look at what needs to go, what should stay, where equipment can get in and where cleared material can be piled or processed.
Mark What Stays
Trees you want to keep, property lines, structures, septic areas and utilities are identified before any cutting starts.
Clear in Sections
Brush, vines, saplings and unwanted trees come out in an orderly sequence so the site stays workable and the ground can be checked as we go.
Walk It with You
When the work is done we go over the cleared area together and talk through any next steps, like grading or Stump Removal.
What Land Clearing Includes
Land Clearing is priced per job after we see the property. The estimate reflects the size of the area, how dense the growth is, the size of the trees, equipment access and what happens to the cleared material.
- Property walk and free written estimate
- Brush, vine and undergrowth removal
- Sapling and Tree Removal
- Handling of cleared material as agreed in your estimate
- Final walk-through of the cleared area
Land Clearing Questions
More questions? See our general FAQs or call 804-338-2089.
What does Land Clearing remove?
Brush, vines, briars, saplings, unwanted trees, fallen timber and surface debris. Stumps can be ground or dug out as part of the same job if you want them gone.
Can I keep some of the trees?
Yes. Tell us which trees matter to you and we'll mark them before we start and clear around them.
What happens to the brush and debris?
It depends on the job. Material can be mulched in place, piled, or removed from the site. Your estimate spells out exactly which option is included.
How is Land Clearing priced?
By the job, not a one-size rate. After we walk the property you get a written price based on acreage, density, access and cleanup.
